Segundo Congreso Internacional Sobre Masculinidades e Igualdad Educación para la igualdad y Co(Educación)

Welcome to the

III International Congress on Masculinities and Equality:

Communication, Culture and Audiovisual Media

(CIMASCIGUAL III)

Miguel Hernández University of Elche (Alicante, Spain) from April 3 to 5, 2025.

The CIMASCIGUAL III which will be held in a mixed form (online/attendance) at the Miguel Hernández University of Elche (Alicante, Spain) from April 3 to 5, 2025, is organized by the Masculinities Observatory and the Economics, Culture and Gender Research Group (ECULGE), with the collaboration of the Equality Unit and the Interdisciplinary Center for Gender Studies of the Miguel Hernández University of Elche (UMH).

This III Congress is a continuous activity based on the recommendations and conclusions obtained in the I International Congress on Masculinities and Equality: in search of good practices of equalitarian masculinities from the university environment (CIMASCIGUAL)” (UMH, Elche, April 2-4, 2019) and in the II International Congress on Masculinities and Equality: education for equality and co(education) (CIMASCIGUAL II)” (UMH, Elche, October 20-22, 2022).

After the celebration of these two international congresses, we consider it necessary to dedicate this third edition of CIMASCIGUAL to cultural products, communication and audiovisual media, and to continue promoting and strengthening the creation of networks among those who work, research, train and intervene in these areas. These intentions have shaped the UMH Masculinities Observatory since it began. This is shown by our work with the media, making videos, the International Academic Network on Masculinities, Gender and Equality” and holding the first feminist seminars on masculinities, gender and equality in 2024. <!– I Ciclo de Seminarios-Workshops Feministas para la Creación de Redes sobre Masculinidades, Género e Igualdad.

CIMASCIGUAL has become a triennial reference conference among those who work on gender equality with a focus on men and the critical study of masculinities. This year, we intend to make a collective reflection on the role of culture and media in socialization and non-formal education in relation to sexist roles and stereotypes of women and men, machismo in human interactions, equalitarian or unequal men’s references, etc. As always, we will think about the role of culture, audiovisual media and communication in socialization and non-formal education in relation to the perpetuation or not, of sexist roles and stereotypes of women and men, of machismo in human interactions, of equalitarian or unequal men’s references, etc.
