Segundo Congreso Internacional Sobre Masculinidades e Igualdad Educación para la igualdad y Co(Educación)

OBJECTIVES

GENERAL OBJECTIVE

  • To analyze how cultural products, audiovisual and mass media, through their roles and practices, transmit and reinforce traditional and hegemonic masculinity or, on the contrary, begin to present pro-equal masculine referents that can promote equality between women and men in our society.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:

  • To reflect on the role of audiovisual media in sex education and the prevention of gender-based violence, including the different forms of violence and their representation.
  • To study audiovisual representations of masculinities from an intersectional perspective, including diversity of gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, functional diversity, age, etc.
  • To explore new forms of fatherhood, co-responsibility and men’s care ethics in audiovisual media, highlighting how men engage in caring and emotional practices in a context of equality.
  • To analyze how masculinity is represented in various media and cultural products, such as music, theatre, video clips, radio, and video games, focusing on how these influence social perceptions of masculinity.
  • To show how activism and co-education can transform masculinities, discussing the influence of social movements and audiovisual media in promoting more effective gender equality.
  • To discuss the various facets of male vulnerability represented in audiovisual media, including health, poverty, and social exclusion, and how these can be addressed through mass media and public policies related to culture, performing arts, and media.
  • To explore how social networks influence the construction and perception of masculinity, highlighting how these platforms can perpetuate traditional stereotypes, but also provide spaces for the expression of alternative and dissident, pro-equality masculinities.
  • To create and strengthen contacts, synergies, exchange of information and NETWORKS between the Masculinities Observatory of the UMH and the media and audio-visual that will be maintained over time with the common goal of working with men and masculinities for gender equality.
  • Examine the gender roles, expectations and challenges faced by men in the digital realm, as well as opportunities to promote more egalitarian and diverse visions of masculinity that favor equality between women and men in today’s society.
